Anthony Joshua saw his heavyweight title dreams collapse after an emphatic defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.

AJ missed the chance to become only the sixth-ever three-time heavyweight champion after a dominant showing from Dubois in his first defence of the IBF belt.

‘DDD’ was upgraded to champion following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate his title to facilitate a rematch with Tyson Fury.

But he proved he was deserving of the title by flooring Joshua FOUR times en route to a thunderous knockout win in the fifth round.

    Parker calls for Dubois

WBO interim heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, who has put together a four-fight win streak, wants to face Triple D next.

Parker has overcome Deontay Wilder and Zhileli Zhang since losing to Joe Joyce and feels it could work as an eliminator.

    Cat got your tongue?

Eddie Hearn has said Anthony Joshua will activate a rematch clause but Daniel Dubois has someone else in his sights.

The IBF champion said he wants revenge on Oleksandr Usyk after his defeat to 'the Cat' last year.

Warren: 'Everyone has seen a champion'

Queensberry promoter Frank Warren said to DAZN: "It was a phenomenal fight and I always felt it would be a Hagler-Hearns situation. AJ showed his heart right until the end. It was a brilliant fight.

"I always felt Dubois would do it and he has. It's not a turnaround, it was there.

"He was a young man and had double fractures in his eyes, he couldn't fight. He hurt him [Usyk], I'd like to see him fight him now but he has to fight Tyson now.

"Everyone here has seen a champion's performance tonight. He's done everything you could ask for.

"AJ caught him with a shot over there and I was worried. He's a young man and on top of his game, he can improve."

  • Joshua: Rolled the dice but came up short

Anthony Joshua, speaking after being knocked out in the fifth round, ensured there was no repeat of his in-ring meltdown.

His infamous speech that followed his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk was clearly on AJ's mind as he analysed his Dubois loss.

Joshua said: "Credit to him and his team. We rolled the dice of success, but we came up short.

"You know I'm ready to kick off in the ring, but I'm going to keep my cool, keep very professional, and give respect to my opponent.

"I'm always saying to myself I'm a fighter for life… We keep rolling the dice.

"I had a sharp opponent, a fast opponent and a lot of mistakes from my end, but that's the game."

Hearn: AJ will exercise rematch clause

Eddie Hearn says he expects his fighter Anthony Joshua to seek a rematch against IBF champion Daniel Dubois.

The Matchroom promoter paid tribute to Dynamite Dan, but backed AJ to return to the biggest stage after his fourth professional defeat.

Hearn said: "It was the first round, after that, he was fighting on heart and desire. I'm so proud because he never gave up, his legs were deceiving him and he kept on trying.

"When you are in there with a massive puncher this is what can happen. He never stopped trying to get up, even when he couldn't get up.

"Daniel deserves credit, he's a real-world champion. Congratulations to him."

Hearn continued: "I'm sure he'll exercise that rematch clause, it's a given, it's a dangerous fight because he's growing in confidence all the time but he'll believe he can beat him."

    Box office

Eddie Hearn admits Anthony Joshua never recovered from that early knockout and was fighting for the rest of the contest on heart.

And if anyone doubted that analysis, just look at this unedited image of Daniel Dubois' huge power punch from round one.

‘Triple D’ looped a beautiful overhand right hand onto AJ's chin, which sent the Watford powerhouse tumbling to the canvas.

Joshua needed the bell to save him from a first-round knockout, but there wasn't much hope for him recovering in the long-term.

AJ was knocked into a new stratosphere!

    Dubois KO's Joshua

Daniel Dubois wanted to legitimise his position as the IBF heavyweight champion having not beaten anyone to win it.

    And wow did he!

Anthony Joshua has never been dominated in such fashion - he's been caught by Andy Ruiz, and outboxed by Oleksandr Usyk.

But he was battered from pillar to post by Dubois from the first bell - dropped multiple times and then left on the canvas.

    DYNAMITE DAN

Daniel Dubois brutally knocked out Anthony Joshua in the fifth round.

'Triple D' had Joshua on the canvas four times en route to a dominant stoppage victory in front of 96,000 at Wembley Stadium.

With that, Dubois successfully defends his IBF heavyweight title and punches his ticket for a fight with the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk II on December 21.

HE Turki Alalshikh had hoped to make the long-awaited all-British showdown between Joshua and Fury next but Dubois has now spoiled those plans in emphatic fashion.

    DUBOIS KNOCKS OUT JOSHUA

FAMOUS LAST WORDS FOR AJ AS DDD DROPS HIM FOR GOOD!!

Joshua never looked like he had recovered from that first-round knockdown and the end of the fight looked one punch away.

But then it happens in the most bizarre of circumstances as AJ comes out with a second wind at the start of the fifth.

He thinks he has Dubois rocked with a heavy right hand and advances forward only to walk onto a 'punch from the GODS' that floors him.

    Joshua vs Dubois– Round 3

    DUBOIS IS ONE PUNCH AWAY!

AJ IS DOWN ANOTHER TWO TIMES AND IS HANGING ON - THE FIRST ONE'S GIVEN AS A TRIP AND IT'S NOT A KNOCKDOWN FOR THE NEXT ONE EITHER!

Somehow Joshua is staying upright towards the final minute of the fourth as Dubois is cautioned for a low blow.

AJ's feet have given up on him and there's surely no way back but to his credit, he's trash-talking his fellow Londoner in a clinch.

Ben Davison roars "F***ing warrior spirit" to Joshua in the corner.

Joshua adds: "He's going to start fast, but he's s***"

AJ looked like he hadn't shaken off that early knockdown during the second, but how will that extra minute of rest come for him?

NOT GOOD - HE'S BEEN STALKED BY DUBOIS!

He catches him with an uppercut that has him sunk to the bottom rope before the bell rings.

Joshua is made to get back to his feet to answer the count, which he just about manages to, but WOWE THIS IS SURELY OVER SOON!

    Joshua vs Dubois– Round 2

AJ is in deep waters here as he wobbles at the start of the second and is forced to wrap the champion up to avoid another fall.

Triple D's overhand right is causing havoc in this fight and Joshua seemingly has no answer for it.

A left hook high on the temple lands as well, but the challenger just has enough to ride the storm to reach the bell.

Joshua does look dazed as he returns to his corner for the start of the third.

AJ IS DOWN!!! INSIDE THE FIRST ROUND!!

    Who saw this coming?

Dubois comes racing out of the blocks and has AJ back-peddling instantly to avoid the barrage of jabs.

Just as AJ thought he was easing into the fight he catches a heavy big right overhand on the chin that drops him.

    Joshua vs Dubois

Dillian Whyte has told talkSPORT that he sees Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois as a 50/50 fight.

"This is a great fight," he told talkSPORT Breakfast on Wednesday.

"I think Daniel will feel great," Whyte added.

"I've never seen him so confident, he has so much self-belief.

"People say he's the underdog but I don't really think he's an underdog, this is an equal fight in my opinion.

"AJ's saying he's the underdog and he's got doubters, I don't think no-one's doubting him, I don't think he's the underdog. Dubois is saying the same.

"I just think that it's one of those fights where it is a genuine 50/50 fight in my opinion."

Daniel Dubois makes his entrance first - unusually as the defending champion - to 50 Cent's 'In Da Club'.

    Joshua vs Dubois

Anthony Joshua is bidding to reestablish his status as the most lucrative prizefighter in the British heavyweight division.

AJ can become only the sixth-ever three-time heavyweight champion by beating Daniel Dubois.

But more than that, the Watford-born boxer will be primed to face the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 to be crowned undisputed king of the division next year.

Joshua has racked up a four-straight win streak since his second defeat to Usyk to set up an IBF world title with Dubois, who inherited the belt after the Ukrainian vacated it.

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is up next to headline Wembley's pre-fight entertainment.

Liam was booked by Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh to play a mini-gig at the IBF heavyweight title clash.

Liam has already revealed that he will sing three Oasis anthems in Rock n’ Roll Star, Supersonic, and Cigarettes and Alcohol.

Event organiser Turki Alalshikh told talkSPORT he would reach out to Noel in an attempt to host the first Oasis show since 2009.
